Getting the start right

Almost everything that goes wrong on a build can be traced back to the ground. A cut that is out of level, footings that are not where the engineer drew them, or spoil left in the way of the slab crew all cost time later. We work to your plans and your builder’s set-out, check levels as we go, and keep the site tidy so the next trade can start on time.

Renovations and extensions

Extensions, granny flats and pools usually mean working around an existing house, fences, gardens and services. Our fleet runs from mini excavators up, so we can pick a machine that fits the access rather than forcing a big machine through your side gate. If the job is tight, that is where we started.

Working with your builder

We are used to working inside a builder’s program. Tell us the dates for footing inspections, slab pours and plumbers, and we will fit the excavation around them. If something on site does not match the drawings, we will stop and call before we dig.

Do you work directly with homeowners or only with builders?

Both. Owner-builders and homeowners doing a renovation can call us directly, and we regularly work under builders on new homes.

Can you take the spoil away?

Yes. Let us know when you ask for an estimate and we will include removal, or spread and level it on site if there is room.

What do you need from me for an estimate?

Your plans or a sketch, the site address, and any photos of access. We will usually come out to look at the site before giving a price.

Can you dig footings in tight backyards?

Yes. We began as Coastwide Mini Excavations and still take on the tight and tricky jobs others avoid.
