Excavator placing a sandstone block on a new retaining wall

Retaining walls on the Central Coast

Sandstone block and sleeper retaining walls, built by licensed structural landscapers. Because we do the excavation too, the cut, the drainage and the wall are all handled by one team.

What’s included

  • Sandstone block retaining walls
  • Concrete sleeper and post walls
  • Excavation and cut for the wall
  • Drainage behind the wall and backfill
  • Terracing sloping backyards
  • Walls for driveways, pools and new homes

One team from cut to capping

Most retaining wall problems start behind the wall, not in front of it. Poor drainage, the wrong backfill or a cut that is not stable while the wall goes up. As licensed structural landscapers who also run our own excavators, we cut, drain, build and backfill as one job, so nothing is left for another trade to get wrong.

Sandstone and sleeper walls

Sandstone blocks suit the Central Coast and last for generations when they are set on a good base. Concrete sleeper walls are a practical choice where space or budget is tighter. We will talk through the options for your site, what each will look like and what each involves.

Engineering and approvals

Taller walls, and walls near boundaries, driveways or buildings, usually need an engineer’s design and sometimes council approval. We will tell you early if your wall is likely to need either, and we can build to an engineer’s drawings.

Common questions

Something else you want to know? Call us on 0403 063 439.

Do I need council approval for a retaining wall?

It depends on the height, the location and your council’s rules. Taller walls and walls near boundaries or structures usually need an engineer’s design and may need approval. We will flag this when we look at the site.

Sandstone or concrete sleepers?

Sandstone blocks are heavy, natural and very durable. Concrete sleepers are slimmer and usually quicker to install. We can build either and will help you pick the right one for the site.

Why does drainage matter so much?

Water building up behind a wall pushes on it. A drainage layer and a way for water to get out are what keep a wall standing, so we include them in every wall.

Can you remove an old failing wall?

Yes. We can demolish and remove an old wall, re-cut the ground and build the new one.
